DSHA Increases Rental Assistance in Areas of Opportunity

To ensure that all Delawareans have more choice of where to live, the Delaware State Housing Authority is increasing available rental assistance in Areas of Opportunity across the state, allowing families with housing vouchers to move closer to employment centers, quality schools and high-growth housing markets.

DELAWARE REAL ESTATE DEVELOPER PLEADS GUILTY TO BANK FRAUD AND ENVIRONMENTAL VIOLATION

Christy Goldsmith Romero, Special Inspector General for the Troubled Asset Relief Program, and David C. Weiss, Acting United States Attorney for the District of Delaware, announced today that Joseph L. Capano, age 73, of Middletown, Delaware, pled guilty to one count of bank fraud and one count of knowingly violating the Clean Water Act. Capano faces up to 30 years of imprisonment and a $1,000,000 fine for the bank fraud charge, and 3 years of imprisonment and a $250,000 fine for the Clean Water Act charge.

Governor Announces Downtown Development District Grant Funding Awards

Downtown revitalization efforts in Seaford, Dover and Wilmington will soon get a boost, as Governor Jack Markell today announced the recipients of the Delaware’s inaugural round of Downtown Development District (DDD) Grants. A total of 13 projects in DDDs statewide have been selected to receive $5.6 million in funding. The state’s $5.6 million is expected to leverage more than $114 million in private investment in a variety of new development projects.

DSHA ANNOUNCES 2014 TOP LENDER OF THE YEAR

Delaware State Housing Authority (DSHA) announces the recipient of the 2014 Top Producing Lender Award - Trident Mortgage. Last year, Trident Mortgage successfully secured more than $28.5 million in mortgage loans for 176 families through DSHA’s homeownership programs. This is the sixth year in a row Trident Mortgage has earned DSHA’s Top Producing Lender Award, helping 886 families with more than $139 million in DSHA’s mortgages since 2009.

Senators Chris Coons (D-Del.), Susan Collins (R-Maine), Jack Reed (D-R.I.), and Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.) on Wednesday re-introduced their legislation to strengthen and reauthorize the heart of the federal government’s energy efficiency strategy — the Weatherization Assistance Program — and to reauthorize the vital work of the State Energy Program. S.703, the Weatherization Enhancement and Local Energy Efficiency Investment and Accountability Act would extend both programs for five more years.
